A forensic mental health evaluation is a form of evaluation performed by a licensed and/or certified mental health professional to provide relevant clinical and scientific data to an individual, agency, organization, legal decision maker, attorney or the litigants involved in civil or criminal proceedings. Forensic mental health evaluations consists of the evaluator conducting clinical diagnostic interviews, assessing, scoring, and interpreting mental health, substance abuse, and/or behavioral tests, providing diagnoses and treatment recommendations, and written summaries of results.

Forensic evaluators are mental health counselors who have additional training and skill to work with individuals in the criminal justice system. Often, they can be called on to testify in court to give evidence as an "expert witness" to discuss the status of the mental and/or behavioral health of an individual, provide recommendations for treatment, or provide recommendations regarding sentencing or parole as required.

Dr. Wilson has been working in the field of mental health and substance abuse for over 14 years, is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisor Distinction (LPCC-S), a Master Addictions Counselor (MAC), a state certified Clinical Services Supervisor, a state certified Substance Abuse Assessor, a PRI Instructor, a certified Juvenile Sexual Offending Counselor, and has a history of specializing in trauma therapy with children, adolescents, and adults.  

She was selected by NAMI KY as the 2019 Keynote Speaker for the Kentucky Conference. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Leadership Education and Supervision from University of Cumberlands in 2018 and she is an active member of the Kentucky Association of Mental Health Professionals, the Kentucky Counseling Association, the American Counseling Association, National Association of Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), and the National Board of Forensic Evaluators. 

In regards to her experience with forensic evaluations, Dr. Wilson has earned dual certification as a Certified Child Custody Evaluator (CCCE) and Forensic Mental Health Evaluator (CFMHE) from the National Board of Forensic Evaluators. The training is a rigorous process involving training, mentoring, and a written and oral examination protocol.
